I arrived the night of the 18th and was met by my friend Sandra at the airport and by three sets of neighbors when I arrived home. That was great.
A few days before my return, the shared pipeline for my and the two condos above me clogged and my kitchen sink overflowed with the most disgusting, foul water. My neighbor who was caring for my cats called me and I called the HOA who sent a plumber to unclog it, but my floor, my sink and my countertop had all been flooded and and had to be sanitized. Welcome to Nevada, Alynwa!
The entire clean up crew was supposed to come Friday at five, but only the floor sanitizers showed. At first, they told me they were only there to sanitize the floor; not the sink and not underneath the sink, but I guess I looked so pitiful, they went ahead and sanitized underneath the sink. The guy to take care of the sink and counter top showed up at 8 this morning just ahead of the guy from the gas company. So now I have a clean kitchen and hot water! And I can cook! And in the clean kitchen, I want to!
I can't really say I've begun to unpack yet. It's not terribly urgent as I already have a wardrobe here. In fact, I have things to take to the thrift shop that belonged to my mom that I was only keeping to use until my stuff got here. I have, however, begun going through the seven months' worth of mail that my neighbor had been collecting for me. Oy, what a job.
Additionally, I've done other important stuff: I got my library card, my flu shot and my pneumonia shot, attended my aunt's 90th birthday dinner, met up with friends and got all those hugs and kisses.
I'll be keeping you apprised of how I'm adjusting to life out West. Right now, Pepper is on one side of me as I type this and Itty Bitty is on the other. I thought they would be PO'd at me for staying away so long, but if they were, they're over it. Once I get organized, I'll post some pictures.

Date: 2019-09-24 12:03 am (UTC)I'm so sorry you had to go through that.
I bleached everything in sight within an inch of its life and that kitchen still made my skin crawl. I hated everything about that place and was THRILLED to leave.
I hope you have different luck and have a happy outcome after this crummy start!

Date: 2019-09-24 04:43 pm (UTC)The sink situation is taken care of now plus the gas man was here to turn it on and I'm feeling like a huge weight is off my shoulders. I'm doing a little bit every day; I still have things to take to the thrift store now that my things have arrived.
My next order of business is one, getting my bathroom that was supposed to be completed back in January finished and two, renovating the kitchen. I want new cabinets and all new appliances.
The best part of all this is Pepper and Itty Bitty. I thought they might be resentful because I was gone so long, but they are still two loving little kitties. I hope they still love me when I take them to the vet tomorrow!
I'm planning on restarting the Song Story Challenge next month and getting back into writing. I miss it. I wrote one BL story back East and I felt so guilty because I felt like I should have been packing, so I'm looking forward to getting back into it.

Date: 2019-09-24 07:02 pm (UTC)You've got a nice and very clean kitchen floor at least. Hope you didn't get stuck with the bill. That would be the real yucky part.
