Busy Friday
Jan. 31st, 2020 01:57 pmI was in the pool at 6:30 this morning, did my hour swim and then went to gas up the car. Went out for breakfast and treated myself to steak and eggs with a Bloody Mary. Came home and paid the car insurance, HOA dues, credit card, car registration and my AARP renewal dues. I also took the car for its annual smog test. Oh, and I went to the library to return a book and use the printer in the computer lab, but unfortunately, the lab is closed today so I have to go back tomorrow.
I feel so accomplished.
I feel so accomplished.
I arrived the night of the 18th and was met by my friend Sandra at the airport and by three sets of neighbors when I arrived home. That was great.
A few days before my return, the shared pipeline for my and the two condos above me clogged and my kitchen sink overflowed with the most disgusting, foul water. My neighbor who was caring for my cats called me and I called the HOA who sent a plumber to unclog it, but my floor, my sink and my countertop had all been flooded and and had to be sanitized. Welcome to Nevada, Alynwa!
The entire clean up crew was supposed to come Friday at five, but only the floor sanitizers showed. At first, they told me they were only there to sanitize the floor; not the sink and not underneath the sink, but I guess I looked so pitiful, they went ahead and sanitized underneath the sink. The guy to take care of the sink and counter top showed up at 8 this morning just ahead of the guy from the gas company. So now I have a clean kitchen and hot water! And I can cook! And in the clean kitchen, I want to!
I can't really say I've begun to unpack yet. It's not terribly urgent as I already have a wardrobe here. In fact, I have things to take to the thrift shop that belonged to my mom that I was only keeping to use until my stuff got here. I have, however, begun going through the seven months' worth of mail that my neighbor had been collecting for me. Oy, what a job.
Additionally, I've done other important stuff: I got my library card, my flu shot and my pneumonia shot, attended my aunt's 90th birthday dinner, met up with friends and got all those hugs and kisses.
I'll be keeping you apprised of how I'm adjusting to life out West. Right now, Pepper is on one side of me as I type this and Itty Bitty is on the other. I thought they would be PO'd at me for staying away so long, but if they were, they're over it. Once I get organized, I'll post some pictures.

So I Decided to Make Changes...
Feb. 7th, 2019 05:12 pmAs you probably know, I'm still in Nevada and I decided to have some work done to the condo before I head East so that when I return permanently, I don't have to maneuver around my furniture to get things done. I asked my friend's husband, who is a contractor, if he wanted to do the work, but he had too much on his plate. He suggested one of his tenants, who is also a contractor and has been one for 18 years.
So the guy comes and I tell him what I want done: Entire place painted, tile floor put everywhere except the master bedroom and bath and installation of a walk - in shower. He says my friend's husband has told him to give me the "sister in law" price and he does. I know the price is fantastic because I had contacted a company that specializes in bathroom redos and he's charging me less for all the work than the company is asking for just the bathroom.
The paint job looks wonderful, the floor looks amazing, but he and I both have been experiencing things that have lengthened this job past the original 10 day completion plan, so the bathroom remains incomplete and the baseboards for the walls still uninstalled. He is so contrite; he promises he will be finished by Tuesday and maybe I'm being naive, but I believe him.
I stayed in the hotel down the street for 7 days, but I'm such a degenerate gambler, I was comped for 4 of them. Itty Bitty and Pepper have been staying at the pet hotel for 2 weeks; they don't gamble so they didn't get any nights comped. I visited them every day except yesterday and I am bringing them home tomorrow to live in the master bedroom with me. I feel that incomplete work or not, they want to be home. They've started to cling to me when I try to put them back in the "cottages" as the hotel calls the cages.
My next thing I want done is getting all the TVs wall mounted. That will allow me to get rid of the old-fashioned TV stands they sit on and free up more floor space. Then I want to replace the carpet in the bedroom. I had wanted to retile the master bath, but that will have to wait until I return.
All of this is happening as I am trying to "Marie Kondo" everything! I am going to Jamaica in April to celebrate a milestone birthday. Instead of getting my groove back, I think I'll be sleeping on the beach.

My mom went into the hospital last night. In good spirits, but still very anemic. Her helper is going with her family to visit more family in Mexico for at least 3 weeks. So, I am heading to Nevada next week for at least a month, possibly longer. That will probably delay my permanent move, but what can I do?
glennagirl, I don't think I'll be able to post a Song Story Challenge for July.
I'll keep you all informed.

Sometimes, I Just Want to Scream...
Apr. 3rd, 2018 02:07 pm Yesterday was not so bad. I woke up to what looked like a blizzard, but now you can hardly tell it snowed at all. I was able to get estimates for a cross country move when a rep from the moving company I contacted was able to come by. Great!
This morning, I decided to go to a noon showing of "Ready Player One" since it's a cloudy, rainy day. Why, when I went to my car, was it dead as a doornail?? I had a new battery and alternator put in about 6 months ago!
I decided to call the dealership to let them handle it and their first available appointment is Friday! What? So, I called Mavis Discount where I had the original work done and they can take the car tomorrow, so that is what I'll do though right now I have no faith in them. I'll call AAA in the morning to give me a boost or tow me if that doesn't work,
One of my friends that I've been trying to reach finally called and said she would drive to the movie, so I'm going to the late afternoon show.
Sometimes, I just want to scream, but then I have to admit that things are not so bad. I can get the car dealt with tomorrow, I can still see the movie today and it seems to have stopped raining for the moment.
Even in the midst of challenges, life is good and for that, I am grateful.
