Saying Goodbye is Hard

I watched the "NCIS" season finale last night and I really do think the story I wrote about Jackson Gibbs' death is better.  I really wish they had focused more on Gibbs and less on the team's case and the bit with Alejandro Rivera just felt off to me.

The link above takes you my story at AO3.   Let me know what you think.

Yes it was not enough about Gibbs and his dad, but so sad. Klennexs were used.

Every time I thought I might get teary, the scene switched back to the team. I was hoping for a longer funeral scene; what was shown was indeed quite sad. I wanted Gibbs to at least leak some tears, but it didn't happen.

I had the same comment about the show, either on my journal or in a comment to someone. I would have preferred focusing on Gibbs dealing with the death of his father, and I would have liked him to show just the littlest bit of emotion instead of being the stoic, emotionless character he is most of the time.

I think the last episode he showed real emotion was years ago when he had amnesia. Tony has lost his spark. Tim and the Delila thing is stupid as she's out of the picture for the most part, not being able to walk. And Bishop is flat, emotionless too. Not feeling the love like I did with Kate and Ziva. She's too disconnected. Was disappointed about last night....

I was disappointed with the episode. I sat down wanting to shed a tear, but the show would not let me do it. I wasn't looking for Gibbs to fall out on the floor, but a couple of tears on his cheeks would have wrecked me. And I'm totally calling BS on LJ "traveling a great distance" to attend the funeral. At the end of "Namesake" LJ went to live with Jackson as he was basically homeless. I think there should have been a scene between Gibbs and his godfather Leroy Jethro.

Delilah is not even in the US; she's in Dubai! I'm waiting for the episode next season where she texts Tim that she's fallen in love with a sheik and won't be coming back.

I don't remember LJ going to live with Jackson...remember him being invited to visit. Anyway I agree with you...Gibbs needed to have some sort of emotional moment about his dad, or with LJ at least. After all LJ is basically all the family he has left in a way.

I did like finally getting the question answered as to why Gibbs likes to build boat.

You know next season is going to be all about Palmer becoming a dad. I can't stand the character and to me, he takes away screen time from Ducky and Jimmy is just an annoyly unimportant character to the story and the show.

If is wasn't for seeing David on an episode, I find myself losing interest in the show and that's not like me.

The characters are all becoming very flat...

I didn't watch the show. Did the canon have one of the 'sympathetic' characters greasing a road to catch a suspect?

I agree and I know DMC is in his 80s and probably doesn't mind being in one or two scenes an episode, but I do. I wanted the team or at least Ducky to verbalize their condolences at the funeral to Gibbs.

I haven't seen Namesake in awhile but I took Jack's invitation to LJ as "live with me" though it wasn't said that bluntly.

Jimmy is the only one of them that theoretically has a life outside NCIS. The rest are all alone for various reasons so I'm sure we'll get more Jimmy next year.

Not really. The part of the show that involved the case eventually tied into an old case, don't want to spoil so that's all I'll say.

Well I just read that David signed a two year contract so that man is going strong and plans to be around for a while. He's an active person so I'm sure that helps.

Yeah I would have liked to have seen more interaction with him at the funeral...though at Kate's funeral there wasn't much. And as you recall Ducky didn't even tell them his mother had passed. He was very private about it. Still Gibbs should have shed a tear for his dad. I was very saddened when Ralph Waite passed away...

Could have done without that part of the show...and would have preferred them focusiing on Gibbs and the relationship with his dad... oh well. Maybe they'll revisit it next season.

I'm with you; I really wanted the gist of the show to be about Gibbs, his dad and his namesake. I doubt they'll get back to it unless the fans raise enough of a stink.
