The Universe is Awesome: Lost Keys Found!
Sep. 11th, 2015 05:05 pmLast month, I was on my way to a memorial service for a friend's stepfather and realized my car keys were not in their usual place in my bag. I went back upstairs, checked around, no keys. Grabbed the spare pair and went on to the memorial.
The next day, tore my house apart, no keys. Checked the car from stem to stern, no keys. Checked with my complex' security twice, no keys.
Today, I'm unloading my car and my car neighbor who I rarely see speaks to me and says, "My friend noticed your keys still in your trunk and turned them in to Security last month. Did you get them?" I tell her "yes" because I had left my keys in the trunk keyhole and I thank her and tell her to thank her friend. As I'm walking to my building, I realize what she's said. Is it possible I left my keys twice? Because I DID leave my keys, but I retrieved them myself. So, even though, I had checked with them twice before, I go to the booth and inquire. The officer pulls out a set of car keys, sadly, not mine. He reaches into the draw again and pulls out a set of house keys, again not mine. I know I'm on a fool's errand and then he pulls out one more set of car keys. BINGO!!!
Now, were the two other officers who manned that booth negligent because they didn't check the draw thoroughly? Or did my car neighbor's friend hang on to the keys for whatever reason and then turned in them right before I just happened to see my car neighbor?
I prefer to think it was a small blessing bestowed by an amused Higher Power. And I am very grateful.

What I call the "old key trick."
Date: 2015-09-11 10:33 pm (UTC)I thought I was losing my mind as I couldn't find my keys in the beginning of the summer. Checked the car, checked my bag...but I had to have them as how could I have gotten into my apartment? Checked around the garden thinking I might have dropped them there. No keys. Started feeling a little paranoid thinking I left them in the door lock (which I've done once or twice) and somebody took them? Yikes.
So I eventually got another spare set made as a backup, but was annoyed because all my store courtesy key tags were with the original set and I didn't feel like starting from scratch on those.
So now a few weeks ago I was cleaning and purging my garbage dump of a bedroom, and lo and behold I found the keys. I forget what they were under. Had no clue how they got there. So now anytime I come in I put the keys in a draw and that's where they stay until I need them. No more lost keys.
Been trying to get rid of a lot of things for an eventual move, guessing my new apartment is probably going to be smaller, so time to downsize.
