My heart bleeds for my second hometown, Las Vegas.  I am a gun owner and I see no problem with doing background checks; they do them in New York.

The NRA and the Republican Party frame gun control and background checks as infringing on our Second Amendment rights.  I disagree.  They have made it easier for the mentally ill to obtain firearms.  If they have their way, silencers will be easier to obtain.  Can you imagine how many people would have died at that concert if the shooter had a silencer?

Our government needs to take its collective head out of its a** and deal with this issue.

Background checks and waiting periods would be a start. I'd also favor allowing the commercial seller to be sued by victims or their families when the gun is used in a crime. The people who sold Paddock his guns would be in for one hell of a class action suit.

Aside from the recent mass murders, I'm seeing one or two shootings EVERY week on the local news. I worry that I'm becoming numb to the violence and that everyone else is too.

I agree with you. The NRA has what, 5 million members? But they spent 30 million dollars on the presidential election. The easy money and the electoral threats have turned the GOP gutless when it comes to background checks and common sense gun regulations.

We have to vote these people out of office somehow. Their conscience doesn't even twinge any more.
