One of my closest friends, who was unable to attend my mom's memorial, came to stay a week with me.  I dropped her at the airport first thing this morning and now the house belongs to me and the cats again.

I'm so happy that she and my other good friend, who left last week, were able to come support, but I'm also very happy to have my solitude once more.  Don't get me wrong, I love them dearly, but I am such a singleton that having someone around me 24/7 gets to be a bit stressful.

Studies show that two of the great stressors in life are losing a parent and moving, both of which I'm dealing with now.  The moving especially is stressful in that it's a slow transition that started in July when I got here to see about Mom and will continue well into next year as I do some renovations to the condo, continue purging and settling some affairs before returning to NYC to purge some more, pack up and return to Nevada permanently.

One of my issues is what to do about Pepper and Itty Bitty when I return to NY.  Where I live doesn't allow pets, but people have snuck them in anyway.  I hate to have to be one of those people, but longterm boarding, if I could find any, would be prohibitively expensive and getting rid of them is simply not an option.

Oh, I just remembered: Another of life's great stressors is a milestone birthday.  I will be 65 in March.  I like to celebrate milestones for the entire year; next year will be a bit more subdued, I think.

I hope I will be securely esconced in my New Normal by next Thanksgiving.  I'll let you know.

I will keep good thoughts for you. Could you hire a pet sitter to take care of them, at least for part of the time. How long are you planning on being gone? It's always so hard when you have pets.

I'm still looking into it, but if not, sigh, they're with me. I'm planning on leaving NV in mid-March and getting back no later than October during which time their shots come due. There's one person here I'd trust but I don't know if she could make that long a commitment.

That is a big chunk of time. I can understand your reluctance.

My best wishes for your new home. And extra good wishes for your birthday. With human and feline good fortune in the year to follow.

Thank you! I'm sure it will all work out in the end; it's just the getting there...
