Last month, I was on my way to a memorial service for a friend's stepfather and realized my car keys were not in their usual place in my bag.  I went back upstairs, checked around, no keys.  Grabbed the spare pair and went on to the memorial.

The next day, tore my house apart, no keys.  Checked the car from stem to stern, no keys.  Checked with my complex' security twice, no keys.

Today, I'm unloading my car and my car neighbor who I rarely see speaks to me and says, "My friend noticed your keys still in your trunk and turned them in to Security last month.  Did you get them?"  I tell her "yes" because I had left my keys in the trunk keyhole and I thank her and tell her to thank her friend.  As I'm walking to my building, I realize what she's said.  Is it possible I left my keys twice?  Because I DID leave my keys, but I retrieved them myself.  So, even though, I had checked with them twice before, I go to the booth and inquire.  The officer pulls out a set of car keys, sadly, not mine.  He reaches into the draw again and pulls out a set of house keys, again not mine.  I know I'm on a fool's errand and then he pulls out one more set of car keys.  BINGO!!!

Now, were the two other officers who manned that booth negligent because they didn't check the draw thoroughly?  Or did my car neighbor's friend hang on to the keys for whatever reason and then turned in them right before I just happened to see my car neighbor?

I prefer to think it was a small blessing bestowed by an amused Higher Power.  And I am very grateful.
