So I finally decided to continue writing some stories I had started a while ago.  I have spent the better part of the morning searching my drive for a first chapter of one of them because, instead of realizing that "Gee, Adrienne, you're writing a lot, you better organize this better!" I just kept storing things in the same place.  Ugh!

So now, I have created a "Works in Progress" folder for those stories.  I think I need another folder called "Published Stories," but I'm not going to do that this weekend. Yay, another item on the neverending "To Do" list!

New writers, take this as a cautionary tale: Set up separate folders!

I know what you mean, I have a currently working on stories, posted stories, and ideas. I had to do that as I kept losing what I wanted. Oh also found out my 'titles' what there is of them doesn't help.

This is why I like google docs as none of it is stored on my computer taking up space. I don't have to search for anything. I organized 95 % of my writing into folders as well a volumes of research.

Plus on google docs you can organize your documents in a number of ways.

Very true and I do have stories in google docs, but because the cursor and letters don't line up like I'm used to, I don't like writing in it. I may have to bite the bullet on this one.

if it's not lining up then you need to change your format and font size. And perhaps the size you view it on the page...which means adjusting on your pc. That should help.

Google docs does go a bit wonky if you try to write while the page is enlarged.

I'll try that, thanks.

I learned early on that it paid to keep things organized. I have a prompt file, a place for WiP, non UNCLE stuff. It really does help.

Something I am learning the hard way. Things were easy when I only had 10 stories, but now with more than 250, I have no choice but to get organized.

You got a solid stash of them, that's for certain. Anything over a hundred and it starts to get confusing.

Have you ever started reading a random story and you are really getting into it just to suddenly realize you wrote it? That's a very weird feeling!

I haven't done that yet, but sometimes when I'm re-reading something I've written, I'll think, this is really good!

What's happening more and more frequently is trying to remember where a scene or line or dialogue appears. What story was that? I have played with the idea of keeping a bible of my stories, timelines, etc., but I haven't gotten a Roundtuit yet. Once I get one of those...

I'm closing in on 800 fics, so I know exactly what you mean. Thankfully, I have a Sparky. She seems to remember everything like that - I call her my walking Spikes encyclopedia. It gets a little challenging when you have several universes going. Heck, it's hard enough with one, but you know what I'm talking about.

Does a Roundtuit clean house? I could really use one of those as well.

I have been searching long and hard for a Roundtuit to clean, but alas, it continues to elude me.

I do know what you're talking about; it's hard sometimes keeping my universes straight and I only have about four.

It's hard to keep one from bleeding over into another one, isn't it?

Yes, it is. I've noticed Grampy and Poppy are getting friendlier and friendlier in the MoB series and I love it, LOL!

I have tried to keep the lines sort of blurred there, but it did start life as a slash story...

Thanks so much! I'm thinking of fiddling with a new one, but I've got a couple others that need tending first.
