I received a PM from someone on ff.net who told me that she had read one of my stories and asked if I ever thought about entering a writing contest on a site called:

inkitt.com

Currently, there are six contests being hosted there, including NaNoWriMo.  For the Fanfiction writing contest, there are prizes of Amazon gift cards.

Things that make you go "Hmmmm..."   Interestingly, there is nothing I saw on the fanfiction contest screen that said authors retain all the rights to their works; but on the horror contest screen, it says specifically "Authors retain all rights to works submitted for the contest."

There are currently six contests running.  I pass this along in case someone is interested.  It seems you might have to sign up, not sure, but you can do that with Facebook, Twitter or your email.

The link goes to their front page.

Hey Alynwa! I just got an E-mail from a friend who told me not to open any links to inkitt. It's a way for them to send you never ending spam. Just wanted to warn you. Hope it's not too late...

Too late for me, but I opened it at work. Maybe that will help?

I did go to the website, but I didn't sign up. So far, haven't gotten anything weird. Normally, I don't take recommendations from strangers, but the site does look interesting. I know NaNoWriMo has its own site, but all the genres listed do have stories posted and it appears readers vote on the ones they like.

I got the same e-mail! It sounded good and all, but I'm always a bit concerned about these things. Besides, I had nothing that would qualify for novel site. I don't tend to write that long. Still, it was nice that she took the time to let us know about it.

Lindafishes8 is leery of the site, but I think I want to investigate further. Maybe I'll use the computer in the local library to explore it thoroughly.

I haven't gotten anything weird in my in box, but perhaps it's because I didn't sign up or anything. I just want to make sure I don't lose the rights to my stuff.

That's why I want to explore further. The Harrowing Horror Contest states specifically that authors retain all rights to their stories, but I didn't see anything that stated that in the fanfic contest screens. And apparently, everything isn't a contest; you can just post, but again, I want to know what I would be getting into if I do that.

I'll let people know what I find out. I'll be off the grid for a week starting Sunday (cruise!!) so I might not get very far before I go.

Sounds fabulous! It's nice and toasty there, as opposed to Henderson!

True, but compared to NYC, Henderson ain't bad this time of year!

Oh heck, yes. I talked with The Boy yesterday (still in NYC) and he was saying how mild it was - 40!

Brrr

My friends in the Valley just look at me when I tell them that in NY, if the real feel or actual temperature is above 32 degrees, we're good. So 40 degrees on a day with little to no wind feels...refreshing.

That's what he said, too. Hopefully, it won't take him long to revert once he get back to the West Coast to live.

I received the email too connected to the Long St. Crispin's Day. I did go "hmmmmm..." and didn't bother to follow up. Hey: I've been to Hollywood. I dealt with She Who Will Not be Named. I don't trust anyone who just happens to "like my work."

Thanks for the heads up.

There are stories on the site. I'm going to look into it some more and I'll let you all know what I find.
