Those of you who've read my latest story, "Bad News, Good Friend," know that it is about a cancer scare Napoleon is having.  The point of the tale is that one of the guys is facing the possibility of a potentially life-altering illness and the other one steps up and assures the other that he is going nowhere because he wants to be the friend the other needs.

Honestly, I haven't decided if I'm going to continue the tale or leave the diagnosis up to you and your imagination.

Anyway, on ff.net, the tale has gotten 3 reviews; 2 of them are complaints that the story is a downer.  (I can't give you the quote because ff is offline for some reason.)  All 3 reviewers have not enabled the "reply" option so I can't communicate with them.

If I could, I would tell them that writing that story was my way of dealing with a cancer diagnosis (not mine).

So, has something similar happened to you?  Did you write a story to address an issue in your life and perhaps had the intent misunderstood or gotten a review that shows the reader missed the point of the story entirely?  Did it bother you?  Did you try to enlighten the person (assuming you could reply) or just left them to wallow in their ignorance?
