I've decided to try writing about what I'm doing while my muse is on vacation.  What I'm attempting to do is see as many Oscar nominated performances and movies as I can.  Thank you, Movie Pass!

So far, I've seen "I, Tonya," "3 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" and "Call Me by Your Name," "Dunkirk" and "Darkest Hour."

"I, Tonya" made me realize that though I know the story, I only knew it from Nancy Kerrigan's and the rest of America's POV.  After seeing the movie, it does make me think that she was punished beyond reason.  There was no proof that she had fore knowledge of the knee capping and though her ex and his ridiculous associate served jail time and she didn't, they were out after less than a year while she was banned for life from skating.

Allison Janney, nominated for her role as Tonya's mom, looks like Howard Stern.  At the end of the film, real footage of Tonya and her mom is shown and Lavona Harding looks like Howard Stern, LOL!

I believe that if this drama had happened today, the outcome would be different because people would have realized what monsters her mother and ex-husband were.

"Three Billboards" is about a mother's pain, rage and guilt about the rape and murder of her daughter and what she does to cope with it.  Frances McDormand is gut-wrenching as the mother and Woody Harrelson is wonderful as the local police chief.  It is amazing to me that the man I first saw as dimwitted Woody the bartender on "Cheers" has evolved into a world class actor.  He brings something unique to every role he plays.  He is awesome.

"Call Me by Your Name" is a coming of age love story between a young man and an older young man.  The budding couple as played by Timothee Chalamet and Armie Hammer, are likeable for the most part though there were times I didn't understand why they were doing what they were doing.  I chalk that up to being single for so long that I don't know how to behave in a relationship anymore.

"Dunkirk" and "Darkest Hour" are about the same period of time from 2 different POVs; soldiers and civilians and Winston Churchill, respectively.  Gary Oldham, I think, will win Best Actor for his Churchill.

I'm going to try to see "The Phantom Thread" later today.

I'm always surprised when I see one or two of them.
