So, I Got a Dog...
Feb. 14th, 2021 10:31 amI had promised myself that when Pepper went over the Rainbow Bridge, I would get a dog.
So yesterday, I went to an adoption event in town being held in front of a pet supplies store. There were several pens containing dogs of various ages and sizes surrounded by a small crowd of people picking them up, petting them and oohing and ahing. I noticed one dog who was calm in the midst of this organized chaos and I gravitated to him. Very calm demeanor, friendly, but not shy and very sweet. His background didn't suggest a history with cats, but I just felt like his energy would go well with one.
I was told his name was Hercules and I thought, not for long it is. I had to show pictures of my home and the outside areas where he'd be hanging out, pay the adoption fees which included neutering, shots and chipping and voila! I had a dog!
My next door neighbor had gone with me and we were discussing possible names. I said maybe Herc and she said no, it sounds like herpes! Then I said, "Hey, tomorrow is Valentine's Day and my favorite soap character is Valentin, so I'm naming him Val."
The cat in the video is The Itty Bitty. She gets along fine with dogs, so I wasn't worried about her and Val didn't disappoint me; he's fine with her and I hope they develop a bond.
Now, we're on a learning curve. I was told he would probably be ready to poop about 15 minutes after eating. I fed him, jumped in the shower and was almost dressed when he did it on my bedroom carpet! 80 percent of my floors are tiled because I have animals and they still manage to poop or toss their cookies on the rug, Ugh. Oh well, now I know.
He's a good boy, though, and as I type, he's lying next to me. I'm in love.
